Plastic Lumber for Landscaping Projects : Our Top Five Uses

Updated: Dec 11

POSTED BY Taylor Casale March 7, 2023

BestPLUS has the answer to your landscaping problems. Our highly sustainable products provide long-lasting solutions for various applications in multiple markets, including landscaping, synthetic turf, concrete forming & shoring, construction, and more! Manufactured from 98% recycled plastic, the durable and affordable plastic lumber processed in Jeannette, PA, is made from materials that would otherwise be destined for landfill.

Our plastic lumber is viable for both residential and commercial use, so whether you are prepping your garden beds for spring planting or installing a turf field, BestPLUS is the solution. Unlike wood, our boards do not absorb or leach toxic chemicals, will not rot or decay, and are maintenance-free—no painting, staining, or sealing required. Our products come in an assortment of colors so you can tailor your boards to match your project design.

Here I share some of my favorite ways to use plastic lumber to enhance your landscape. 1. Garden Edging

Typical aluminum edging can chip, break, or be dangerous to keep in your yard. BestPLUS offers solutions with our landscape timbers and bendable edging, creating a cohesive and dynamic look to your outdoor space. Our garden edging kit can be customized to the exact bend and curve you’re looking for, allowing you to create the garden of your dreams with stakes to hold your custom bend in place.

2. Retaining Walls

BestPLUS plastic lumber, especially our 6” x 6” and 4” x 4” boards, are perfect for building sustainable retaining walls for ground contact applications. Plastic lumber is as easy to work with as wood but will last significantly longer. You can use similar cutting tools (carbide tips recommended) and hardware to shape your timbers just the way you want.

3. Driveway Edging

BestPLUS plastic lumber can also be used for durable edging for driveways to protect your landscape while elevating the look of your yard. Our available color array allows for a clean look that stands strong in tough conditions.

4. Steps

Landscapers are using recycled plastic lumber for new installations and replacement of old wood installations more frequently. With BestPLUS plastic lumber, your steps will be waterproof and erosion resistant, as plastic timbers last longer and require no maintenance.

5. Garden Beds

If you’re tired of spending hours planting in the sun only to be met with wood rot and animal break-ins, our raised garden bed application is for you! Our plastic lumber boards can be used to design garden beds tailored to your taste and needs. Alter the size of each bed by cutting through the BestPLUS boards the same way you can cut wood, giving you full control over your garden design.

Hi there @casalem! Thanks for your curiosity. Our products are ideal for New England weather. This is because our boards are plastic which is not water soluble and therefore will not swell, as opposed to traditional wood. Our boards are also rot, mold, and mildew proof - creating a long lasting and weather-proof product (even in New England).
